Our client, a leading Big 4 consultancy, is seeking a Director to lead and expand its Payments capability within the Financial Services Technology Consulting practice. This leadership role focuses on shaping payments strategy, driving complex transformation programmes, and building long-term client relationships across banking, payments providers, and financial institutions.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing market propositions, growing the practice, and leading engagements across the evolving payments landscape—covering infrastructure, schemes, technology, compliance and innovation.

Key Focus Areas

The Director will lead work across a range of payments topics, including:
  • Payments Strategy & Transformation
    • Designing enterprise-wide payments strategies aligned with digital and regulatory change
    • Supporting clients across retail, corporate and real-time payments transformations
  • Payments Architecture & Modernisation
    • Advising on target architectures, cloud-enabled platforms, and next-generation payment hubs
    • Modernising legacy systems and integrating new digital capabilities
  • Payments Regulation & Compliance
    • Advising on regulatory change (e.g. PSD2, PSD3, SEPA, instant payments, AML, fraud)
    • Designing compliant, resilient and secure payment operating models
  • Operational Efficiency & Cost Transformation
    • Optimising processes across the payments lifecycle
    • Driving automation, straight-through processing and operational excellence
  • Innovation & Emerging Trends
    • Exploring opportunities in real-time payments, digital wallets, RTP rails, and open banking
    • Assessing the impact of digital currencies, tokenisation and new market entrants

Your Profile

We are seeking an experienced technology consulting leader with:
  • Extensive experience in payments across financial services, consulting, or industry
  • Strong understanding of payments infrastructure, schemes, regulation and operating models
  • Proven track record in leading complex transformation programmes for banks or payments providers
  • Demonstrated commercial success in business development, proposals and revenue generation
  • Ability to engage and influence C-suite stakeholders
  • Strong team leadership skills with experience developing senior consulting talent
  • Excellent analytical, communication and conceptual skills
  • Fluent German and English (written and spoken)

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Leadership & Market Development
    • Act as a trusted advisor on payments strategy and technology transformation
    • Build strong C-level relationships across banks, financial institutions and payments providers
    • Lead business development efforts, proposals and thought leadership initiatives
  • Shape & Deliver Major Transformation Programmes
    • Define and deliver payments strategy, architecture and implementation roadmaps
    • Lead multi-disciplinary delivery teams across consulting, engineering and vendor partners
    • Ensure high-quality delivery, risk management and client satisfaction
  • Grow the Payments Practice
    • Develop service offerings, methodologies and go-to-market propositions
    • Build strategic partnerships across the payments ecosystem
    • Represent the firm in market forums, industry events and relevant networks
  • Lead & Develop Teams
    • Mentor senior managers and managers and contribute to broader capability building
    • Support recruitment and team expansion aligned with practice growth
    • Foster an inclusive and collaborative leadership culture
